  • Anthony Battaglia
    Creative Director

Anthony Battaglia is Principal and Creative Director of BoxTM. Battaglia graduated with Honours in Graphic Design from Randwick Tafe School of Design. His exceptional design skills and advanced knowledge of computer graphics led to him becoming a part-time lecturer soon after his graduation - an honour few other graduate designers achieve.

In 1988, after a short stint in advertising, Battaglia joined the ABC TV's graphics department and during the next seven years was responsible for many memorable ABC program graphics including: The 7.30 Report, Four Corners, Quantum, The Investigators, Money Or The Gun, ABC News and ABC Sport. During this time Battaglia had the pleasure of working directly with key ABC identities including: Andrew Ollie, Quentin Dempster, Kerry O'Brien, Trisha Goddard, Karina Kelly, Andrew Denton, Chris Masters, Roy & HG and Jenny Brockie.

In 1994 Battaglia left the ABC to found his own design studio. His early work includes the influential film titles: Idiot Box for Director David Ceasar and The Well for director Sam Lang. Later film titles include A Wreck A Tangle and Dirty Deeds. His Broadcast Design credits from this period included The 7.30 Report for ABC TV, Movie Greats for Optus Vision and Monday Night Football for Channel Nine.

Battaglia has been profiled in numerous magazine articles and his work has been recognised with awards including: The New York Festival, AGDA, AWARD and Promax BDA. (Visit the awards section to view full list). Battaglia has also successfully exhibited his own digital art in a solo show at David Rex Livingston Gallery, Sydney 2000.

Battaglia's first book Catherine - a creative collaboration with photographer Basquali - won Book Design of the Year 2000, Best Illustrated Book of the Year 2000 and Best Cover 2000 in the 2001 Joyce Thorpe Nicholson Book Design Awards. Recent book collaborations with New York-based photographer James Houston - Raw Moves (2000), One (2005), Move (2006) and Natural Beauty (2013) have been heralded internationally for their typographic, design and production excellence.

Battaglia's design is a unique blend of intuition and intelligence. Known in the industry as 'the thoughtful designer' his work reveals a rare ability to consistently and coherently deliver meaningful design messages in any visual environment.
